Grape Harvest at Riwaka, 1912. Fred McKee is sorting grapes with another man. Fred (1892-1916) was the son of Arthur and Martha McKee. His father opened up "Apple lands" in Tasman, now the heart of apple horticulture in the Nelson Tasman area. Fred enlisted in 1914 and served at Gallipoli and the Western Front. He was killed in action at the First Battle of the Somme in September 1916. |
