Sir Ernest Rutherford visits his old school at Havelock. 29 October 1925. Ernest Rutherford (b.1871 d.1937) aided the allied war effort in 1916 by researching submarine detection and he developed a unidirectional hydrophone which was fitted to ships from 1917. In 1917 Rutherford was part of a joint French-British delegation that travelled to the USA to transfer knowledge to American scientists. He was made Baron Rutherford of Nelson in 1931. |
